Knowing What to Expect and How to React.
First of all, expect to have a good time. You will.
Every expedition down the Ocmulgee River is different. Each time you go, you'll notice something different, you'll see something different. Each expedition is an experience.
From us, you can expect door-to-river service.
For a Quick Float: you arrive, you get in your canoe/kayak, you begin your journey on the Ocmulgee River and when you're done, you don't lift a finger-- We load your gear for you and shuttle you back to your car.
On a Half Day Tour: You arrive at the shuttle point, we drive you to your launch destination (Popes Ferry), we unload your equipment and get you in the river. Several hours later, when you reach the boat ramp at Amerson Water Works Park, you check in with us to let us know you made it back, then you get in your car and you're off to go brag about your expedition.
Other things to expect...
You are IN nature. This is not a theme park ride, you'll see wildlife (birds, frogs, all types of fish, deer, turtles, wild hogs, possibly a snake.) Use common sense and don't try to feed the animals.
If you're lucky, you'll get to see a Bald Eagle or two!
You're going to get wet. That's not a bad thing. You'll WANT to get in the river. Especially on a hot day, the river is very refreshing.
Your canoe/kayak may turn over. Don't panic. It's ok. You simply turn it back over when you get to a shallow or sand bar. You'll laugh about it later.
You will go through shoals on the Half Day Tour. Especially if the river is low. Some people call them 'rapids', but they're really not. Although when you go through them and come out on the other side, your adrenaline is pumping and you'll swear that you're ready for REAL rapids. Or at the very least the Summer Olympics.
Your cell phone may not have signal on the Half Day Tour. There is an area on the upper part of the Half Day Tour that you'll lose your signal.
Don't Worry. Enjoy. If this is your first time on the Ocmulgee River and you're feeling *apprehensive* (Scared? Say scared.) Let us know, our river guides like nothing better than to float with "First Timers" to show them that the Ocmulgee River really is a renewable source of good times.
